Your Trash Can, Can Shut Us Down: Why Hazardous Items Matter

One wrong item in a trash can can create a much bigger problem than most people realize.

Oil, paint, chemicals, batteries, fuel and other hazardous materials do not belong in regular household trash. These materials can leak, ignite or react during collection and create serious risks for trash equipment, employees and the surrounding community.

Please Do Not Put These Items in Your Trash

DM Trash asks customers to keep the following materials out of their regular curbside cans:

  • Oil
  • Paint
  • Chemicals
  • Batteries
  • Fuel
  • Hazardous materials

A trash truck carries a large amount of compressed material in a relatively small space. When hazardous or flammable materials are mixed into that load, the consequences can be serious.

Damage to a truck doesn’t just affect a piece of equipment. It can interrupt service, put our crew at risk and affect our ability to continue serving the communities that depend on us.
